Look Closer to Home for Your Next Holiday

Giving those January blues a nudge can sometimes be a lot harder than you think. Providing yourself with an adventure to look forward to is, however, sure to help.

Who said that going on holidays and experiencing the world had to mean emptying your wallet and living on basic rations for the months leading up to it? Travelling closer to home can save you money and be just as exciting as trips further afield.

Looking across Europe, many of the countries and cities offer dramatic history, beautiful architecture and some have even managed to avoid becoming too touristy and still allow you to experience how the locals live.

Hotels abroad aren’t as expensive as you may imagine. For example, many hotels in Amsterdam are within a decent budget and will be in a great location, accessible to many attractions.

If you decide to book a holiday to Amsterdam, you will be guaranteed a laid-back Dutch lifestyle experience. One afternoon you might wish to sit in a riverside bar or café, with a delicious glass of red wine and watch the world go by. Another day, you may decide to take a bicycle on a trip around this beautiful city.
The charming lanes and picturesque architecture will leave you in awe of this popular European destination.

The best time to visit Amsterdam is May through to August, when the tulips are out and the temperature is ideal. That said, the Dutch Indian summer, which lasts from September to October, can be just as delightful.

Many other destinations within Europe offer a good deal for holidaymakers. Prague in the Czech Republic has become increasingly popular, and has now worked its way towards being one of the most popular European destinations. A mixture of its thrilling history and beautiful architecture keeps the city at the top of the list.

If you look beyond the Gothic and Renaissance feel and past the medieval lanes of the Old Town and Castle District, you will find a completely different, cosmopolitan city to explore. Take a look at the riverside parks, bars and beer gardens plus museums and art galleries with something for everyone.
Prague’s excellent public transport system will provide you with easy access to some emerging suburbs. Here you will be able to take full advantage of cheaper prices and more local ambience.

There is even a European destination for those who hate to travel. You can try somewhere much closer to home without the need to learn another language. Try exploring London for a long weekend.

When you take a look at hotels in London you will see that all of them have great deals on any length of stay. Some are even right next to attractions such as the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. Plus many are close to tube stations and bus stops, so getting around the city is easy.

If you have a full day to fill, then head down to Hamleys toy store at Oxford Circus before taking the long stroll down towards Piccadilly Circus, through Trafalgar Square then along The Mall to what is possibly the most famous building in England, Buckingham Palace.

Or, you could wander around the markets in London. Carnaby Street is popular and the year-round market at Camden has even become world famous. There are plenty of stalls at this market offering everything from fresh fruit juice to hot Chinese takeaway. You can, of course, also buy clothes, shoes, bags and personalised jewellery at Camden Market and the majority of stallholders are prepared to haggle a price suitable for you.

So, if you’re hoping to get a break away and travelling isn’t really an idea that appeals to you, take a look at a few London hotels; you will easily be able to find a room suitable for you and your partner, family or friends.

Another idea for a quick getaway to a destination closer to home is Paris. Visit the world famous Eiffel Tower, Le Arc de Triumph and Notre Dame and experience a city enriched in legendary history and romance. The underground transport system is easy to follow, even for those with no French speaking skills.
Overall, a holiday doesn’t have to mean hotter climates and longer flights. There are many places to see on our own continent, which can sometimes be overlooked. So, next time you stare out the window and feel blue take a look at the great hotels and holiday offers across Europe.
